Effective writing is more than simple documentation. And more than the helpful pablum that is generated by AI summaries. If you want to boost your value to your current or future employers by writing engineering blogs that actually get people excited, I strongly recommend this book.

“Developer marketing”. How often have you found yourself cringing at that epithet? This book is a guide for abolishing the cringe once and for all. For technical marketers, this book is solid gold. It explains how developers themselves can become part of a company’s narrative, and generate opinionated and technically credible material. Very pragmatic and highly readable, this book should be on the shelf of everybody in the tech industry, from developer to CEO.

Piotr and Cynthia have both been tremendously helpful to me with writing and communicating effectively, and it’s so exciting to see their wisdom distilled and shared with the world. If you’re writing for developers, the best decision you can make is to read Writing for Developers.

A while ago I had the opportunity to review “Writing for Developers” by Piotr Sarna and Cynthia Dunlop.

I want to recommend the book to all people that are working in the tech industry, the book gave me a better glance of why writing is a very important skill.

In my years of developer I have read very good tech blogs and I always wondered how to reach that level of expertise, this book helped me with that.

The book gives you the why and how to do a great personal blog, it does this by examples and practical scenarios, it is a very good reference of the kind of things that you can share in this industry, everyone has a space or something important to share!

Also gives you the perspective on how writing will help you in your daily job and boost your career in the tech industry.

I couldn’t recommend more this book, I’ll start my own blog and this book will be my main reference.

This book is about how to make the Internet a better place. How to step out of your comfort zone and boost your personal brand along the way. How to reflect and appreciate the work challenges you overcame in the past.

Blog posts about software development are not necessarily always a dry subject, and this book contains dozens of tricks and techniques on how to find interesting topics, structure your thoughts, deliver it in a compelling way and find your audience.

I really liked the different frameworks to approach the actual writing, this is super useful and provides an excellent direction to start. Another helpful thing is the classification of different patterns used in the most successful blog posts. This really feels like a cheat code and helps to come up with good and relevant ideas.

This book was of a fantastic value for me. Highly recommended for veteran bloggers and newbies alike.

    8. Jeff Patterson (verified owner)

I enjoy writing, but I often feel that I’m not very good at it. While I can find the time to write, discovering interesting subjects is the most challenging part. As a result, I end up procrastinating and wishing I were writing more. The book, “Writing for Developers: Blogs that get read,” has been a source of inspiration for me. It has shown me how to identify topics that interest me and how to present them in a way that others might enjoy reading.

The authors provide a step-by-step plan, complete with structure and reasoning. They use both real and fictional examples to illustrate how a story can evolve, backing up their assertions with practical demonstrations.
